Self Hating – How to Quit It

Be the kind of woman that when your feet hit the ground in the morning, the devil says, oh crap, she’s awake.

I’ve always loved this quote, it makes me smile all the time. However, many days I do not wake up with that kind of confidence.  AS a matter of fact, I usually wake up with self-doubt, tons of questions and an overwhelming feeling of all the things I need to get done.

One of the biggest troubles I think we face today is our constant comparison and striving to live up to some kind of perfect way of living.  It’s Pinterest and Instagram and all those people who seem to be doing life better than we are.  We get so lost in that, we stop seeing our gifts and start chasing someone else’s.

In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. ~ Ephesians 6:16

The shield of faith.. in all circumstances

  1. write down 5 things you do well
  2. write down 5 things you’d like to do well
    1. ask yourself – are these things that you could get better at?
      1. Like I’d love to take great photos and make beautiful wooden signs – but I’ve tried – I’m an awful artist…
  3. Ask yourself – do you like yourself?
    1. why not
    2. are what you say to yourself truth or lies
  4. Open your Bible – or google.. and search “What does God say about my worth.”
    1. believe it
    2. use your shield of faith and trust it…
  5. Stop letting the fiery darts from satan set you off course! Take the lies of his darts and put up your shield knowing that you can block everyone with the faith you have in Who God says he is and Who he says you are!

If you’re new to God or not sure about this whole faith thing, I encourage you to explore the Bible.  It’s a huge book so just start by searching bible verses on Google for any questions, problems or pains you’re feeling.  There is a verse for everything!

Faith needs a few things:

  • It needs knowledge – we need to engage our minds with the truth of God in his Word – so that when we are attacked by self-doubt and self-hate, we can overcome them with truth
  • It needs us to Respond – as we study the truth our emotions will take hold, and you’ll feel hope and joy take over.  From your core and radiate outward.
    • I don’t live every day like this yet, but as I continue to renew my mind – my inner joy is growing, and I can bring the joy party wherever I go – radiating God’s grace and love for me to everyone.
  • Lastly, it needs us to commit and follow through with our complete Trust in who God says He is, we are, and that is plans are perfect for us – not someone else…US!

  1. I really enjoyed reading this Tiffany. Such insight and encouragement. I love the practical steps to take to love ourselves. This is so needed in our culture that instigates self-hate.

    1. Thank you! I agree our culture needs a lot more self-love! 🙂
