The Real Secret to Weight Loss – Part 6 Intellectual Wellness

If you’ve been following this blog series, you’ve learned the importance of learning more about yourself and others and how that knowledge can lead to a happier and healthier life.  You’ve also probably seen how much all of these areas are linked to your overall health and the carry over impact of each.  Our minds are the most powerful resource we have and what we fill it with is who we become.  One of Zig Ziglar’s  most famous quotes is:

” You are what you are and you are where you are because of what has gone into your mind.  You can change what you are and you can change where you are by what goes into your mind.”

Your intellectual wellness can change who you are and where you are as long as what you’re putting into it is fueling you with the energy you need to live your best life.  You’ll be able to build a ‘tool kit’ of skills to improve your dealings with every situation and every person.

In the last three years I’ve become more and more interested in improving my intellectual skill set. My life is full of nonstop go-go so, I’ve had to find ways to absorb new ideas and skills without having to stop, sit down and read (even though I do make time for that as well) so, I listen to audio books on Audible or overdrive and have found some great podcasts the cover everything from being a mom and wife to being good at my career and dealings with people.  My favorite things to learn about right now are how to have more effective crucial conversation, how to pause when I’m feeling upset, how to have more self-control when it comes to my emotions and eating pattern.  I’ve also enjoyed learning how to be a better wife and how to more intentionally coach and discipline my children.

You may not like to learn about the same things I do, maybe you’d like to learn more about – travel, culture, current events, history….Intellectual wellness is about getting and keeping the flame of curiosity strong and vibrate in your life.  It’s about the desire to learn more and continue the path of knowledge and wisdom alive.

“Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. — Ephesians 5:15-16

Routines Intellectual wellness:

  • Be open minded
  • Listen. When you actively listen you are able to fully comprehend situations and gain wisdom
  • Find the best medium to learn and grow (ie: podcasts, audio books, books, videos.. but continue to gain knowledge and wisdom always!)
  • Explore fiction and nonfiction – all experiences bring knowledge
  • Journal
  • Walk out your dreams and goals by learning how to make them possible

As you dive into improving your intellectual wellness, your overall health will be transformed, because you’ll be made aware of things that will shed light on your eating habits, relationship health, your career and will remind you of the things you enjoy adding purpose back into your life.  Once your mind knows what’s right, you can’t keep choosing wrong – you’ll be transformed.
