Who wouldn’t want to build a spaceship out of a box to watch the movie Space Jam? My daughter cracks me up with the things she comes up with. She once wore workout gloves, fairy wings, and a bike helmet grocery shopping just to make it fun, boy was it ever! Best time I’ve ever had grocery shopping, best time other people who watched her probably had too!
We all start life this way… Dreamers on a mission with no regard for the opinions of others, true to who we are. Then one day for some reason or reasons, we stop dreaming, stop being on a mission and stop living a life in our uniqueness. We become transformed to this world. Well, that’s been the case for me, and it got me thinking, when and what caused me to stop dreaming, creating and loving life with such freedom?
Average
The most significant lie I believe about myself is that I am only average. That I’ll just amount to being ‘almost good enough’ at things and will never be great at anything. I was a C/D student in elementary and middle school. At points in my life, I had people comment on my average abilities, looks, talents… These words lead to my beliefs, and I allow them to limit me every single day. I only let myself to see my averageness and so average is what I get.
Here’s the thing, my heart knows better, but my mind is in the way! I allow my fear and disappointment keep me in ‘average’ world instead of walking boldly knowing who has the Power in my life. God. I let my belief of averageness, the opinions of others, and a desire for approval to limit me.
Are people going to believe that God is good if I live my life like I’m average, afraid, lack power? No way!
We are asked to take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. Through that obedience, we allow ourselves to be used by God.
“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5
Today, I started the bible study Wife after God. One of the verses, 2 Corinthians 5:20 (MSG) We’re Christ’s representatives. God uses us to persuade men and women to drop their differences and enter into God’s work of making things right between them…We are speaking for Christ! What an eye-opener.
So, here’s the message God placed on my heart today while writing this blog:
1. I was created by him, there is nothing average about me. I’m fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalm 139:14
2. I am a representative of God. So my beliefs, my words, my actions, my behavior… either push people toward God or drive them away from him. 2 Corinthians 5:20
3. Until I learn to be still and know… I will continue to put roadblocks up against greatness. I strive and strive and strive… I try to take control of everything and work it out for good…But that is NOT my job! That’s God’s job. Psalm 46:10
God is doing great things in my life, he is doing great things in your life. We are all created for a specific and beautiful purpose. If we continue to spend time chasing what we want and not asking God why he created us, we will only see average results. But, if we are in line with what his mission is for us – which, by the way, is way better than anything we could dream up – it’s greatness is awe inspiring!
LESS OF ME – MORE OF YOU, LORD!
